Is Coach Richt's model flawed?

What is the easiest way to find the local juke joint?
Look for Georgia Bulldog football players.
You could also insert Athletic Director into that joke.
Coach Richt deserves and gets a great deal of respect. By all accounts he is a very moral person and, except for a few deer in the headlight moments, he has done a good job running the program.
If there is a nagging complaint, it would certainly center on his business model. You know… laissez faire football, the old FSU style of recruit the best players, and turn them loose.
Some recent history of this style includes the head bobbing Prince Miller, an arrest for domestic violence, the most heavily penalized team in the country, a groping quarterback, an alleged taxi cab incident involving civilians and the most recent arrest just this past weekend for underage drinking.
Soon we’ll see late night infomercials for “Bulldogs Gone Wild!” Order now for only $19.95.
Yes it also produced Mathew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, but think about that. Any team with those two players should play in the BCS title game, not a blow out Sugar Bowl against Hawaii.
What is your opinion? Is Richt’s model flawed?

  1. FYI the taxi issue was not related to the program, and we were not the most penalized team in the country.

  2. A brilliant question by a wanabe journalist.

  3. Let's see. He is 90-27 with two SEC titles. Not a bad record, but you are correct that the program needs more dicipline.

  4. Leave CMR alone. I like him being in Athens!

  5. To answer your question, no. His model is perfect for teams that desire to win 8 games a year and play in the Chic-Fil-A Bowl.

That don't fly west of the Chattahooch!

  6. Remind me why I got fired.

  7. Ah excuse me but UGA (CMR) didn't pick the opponent in the Sugar Bowl - good grief.

  8. I think the bigger point is that CMR has plenty of talent, but cannot get over the hump. His best opportunity came when Stafford and Moreno were on the field together and we blew it.

  9. Bigger question is do you want to be a real journalist? Posting something like this shows you are lazy and can't find (or want)anything to write about, do your own research. This story is getting old.........

  10. You should retract the bit about the taxi incident. UGA players were cleared of any wrongdoing. Asshat.

  11. There is no doubt in my mind that the Coach Richt group of MAKE EXCUSES fans, have some hidden agenda to reply to your blog - as short as it is - with items such as we were not the DEAD LAST WORST PENALIZED TEAMS.

We are the Dead Last Most Arrested / Suspended team in 2010 # 1 in Fulmer Cup Standings and we are # 3 All-Time in Fulmer Cup Standings - very close now to the # 1 Dead Last Most Arrested / Suspended team All-Time, which started in 2006.

Over the last 4 years :

    (1) # 3 Fulmer Cup Standings Arrests / Suspensions

    (2) Average #96 in Penalties

    (3) Average 21 Fumbles

    (4) Average 14 Interceptions

    (5) 38-14 good for # 19 nation won / loss record

    (6) 10-10 vs SEC East good for # 3 in SEC East

    (7) 20-12 vs SEC good for # 4 in The SEC

    (8) According to Chris Low ESPN Coach Richt in his 9 Year Era to-date is # 5 worst SEC Coach vs Ranked teams with current school

    (9) 1-3 vs vols and those were 4 bad vols' teams, 1-3 vs Florida

    (10) 5 of the 10 SEC East losses the last 4 years have come at the hands of SEC East teams NOT RANKED in the Final AP Poll 25, even with their wins over us.

So these Top 10 items all over the last 4 years are certainly not good for the Program UGA which is # 11 All-Time in 1-A Wins. We have dropped off.

    Try admitting it.

Jim Donnan was fired for Losing 13 games his last 4 years in Athens. Coach Richt has LOST 14 his last 4 years, but we have not fallen off.

Coach Richt recruits have not been nearly as good the last 5 years as were the Jim Donnan Recruits he enjoyed the 1st 5 years of the Coach Richt Era.

2-7 vs Florida entire Coach Richt Era

    # 52 NCAA Total Offense Average entire Coach Richt Era

8 Losses vs Final AP Poll UNRANKED teams entire Coach Richt Era.

3-8 Record vs Final AP Poll Top 10 teams entire Coach Richt Era.

Well over 100 Arrests / Suspensions in 9 years of entire Coach Richt Era, averaging 1 arrest / suspension a month for 9 years and that has not changed 1 iota.

  12. 46 Arrests / Suspensions since just February 2007, 3 years ago.

As for the Taxi cab, let me get this straight UGA BULLDOG FOOTBALL is in said Taxi at 2 am with these GANG THUGS who hit the woman and the man and who said they would do worse to them, and UGA Bulldogs are MODELS ? What were we doing out with these gang members ? Bulldog football player was picked up with the gang members at 2 am and added to a Taxi that already had a man and his woman in it.

We did not pick our bowl opponent in 2007 with Knowshon Moreno whom we redshirted so that we only got to see him only 2 years and with Matthew Stafford.

We were ranked Consensus # 1 across the nation in 2008 with Knowshon Moreno and yet Matthew Stafford beat only 1 Top 10 Final AP Poll team # 9 Auburn in 2006. We gave up consecutive points of 29 to Georgia tek, 31 to nothing at half vs Alabama and 42 to nothing in JAX. Nice real nice. But, I suppose we didn't pick our bowl game opponent 2008 either, right ?

We did not pick our opponent for that bowl game 2007 is what you said, right ?

    Huh ?

In 2008, when we were ranked # 1 in the nation by every poll.

We instantly that night went out and had 18 arrested / suspended or should have been for barroom brawls. When the dust settled a dozen were arrested.

2007 we have a game vs South Carolina a team with a 6-6 record who did not even go to a bowl game AND LOST. A Home Game at Sanford Stadium against a team that did not even play in a bowl game and we LOST.

Then early on as well, we have a game against a poor vols' team who Lost 4 games including to a lousy 7-6 California Golden Bears but they did not lose to UGA, in fact it was a blow-out of Biblical Proportions.

Our season was over. Shot in the foot. We no longer could get out of The SEC East, again. We played a 4-loss Florida team and beat them, but that was the worst Florida team of the Tim Tebow Era.

Our early losses to South Carolina and the vols both SEC East losses took us out of ALL OUR GOALS.

But, we did not CHOOSE our opponent in the bowl game 2007 ?

Sure we did with our game against South Carolina followed by our game against the vols, we sure as hell did dig our own grave in 2007 and therefore pick that we would not play a good opponent in the bowl game.

Let me answer this we did not pick our opponent in 2007 bowl game B.S. even more succinctly for you : Coach Richt has not beat ANY Top 10 Final AP Poll team in ANY bowl game.
